The objective of this research is to develop a quantitative understanding of the relationship between rod taper and casting performance. Digitized images of casts with a variety of existing rods will be used to determine characteristic rod flex and velocities through time. Computer simulations of casts will be used to provide comparisons with measured values, and to propose improvements in rod design.
