- Professor Ian Kennedy, Ph.D., a Superfund Basic Research Program (SBRP)-funded engineer from the University of California, Davis (UCD), spoke to NIEHS scientists May 12 in Rodbell Auditorium. His SBRP Distinguished Lecture focused on “Metal Oxides: Applications and Health.”

- June, 2008, Anne Chase receives a prestigious Graduate Fellowship from the National Science Foundation. Students receive three years of funding at the institution they choose--up to $121,500--for research-focused master's and doctorate degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. (They receive a stipend of $30,000 a year, plus $10,500 a year as a cost of education allowance.) NSF Fellows are expected to become experts who can contribute significantly to research, teaching, and innovations in science and engineering. Although there were 913 awards made nationally, apparently only several other students on the UCD campus were successful in this very competitive program.
- February, 2008, Former MAE Master of Science UCDavis graduate Candice Bauer, 2007 ASME 2007 ASME Old Guard Early Career Award recipient shares her experiences that have advanced her professional engineering degree.
